At Vaporesso, a mod always carries a range name before its model number. GEN, Armour, Target, and occasionally none of them. On paper the spec sheets look alike, with the same chipset, similar wattages and cells in 18650 or 21700 size. Yet a Vaporesso mod from the Armour range and one from the GEN range are not designed for the same life. The trick is reading what the range name actually signals.

Which Vaporesso mod to choose, range by range

The GEN range is about low weight and versatility, built around 18650 cells. The Armour range is about toughness, with a TPU shell, 21700 support on the Armour Max and Armour S, and water and dust ratings on the Armour Ultra and Armour Octa. The Target range is built for the outdoors, with a cage-like frame and a braided covering that shrugs off splashes.

Our pick by use is clear. At home or at a desk, a GEN 200 or GEN MAX does the job. For a rough pocket, a building site or a long walk, pick a Vaporesso mod from the Armour range. For a compact mod that travels in a bag, a Target. And for a single cell, both the Armour S and the Target 100 take a 21700 as readily as an 18650.

The figures below come from the product pages on Vaporesso’s official site. We keep the screw-on atomiser mods of 80 W and above, and leave aside the pod mods sold under the same names. The last column is our reading of the intended use.

Every one of these mods runs Vaporesso’s AXON chipset, in version 3.0 on the Armour Octa. The gap between ranges therefore lies less in the electronics than in the chassis, the power source and the physical protection.

GEN, the lightweight range built around grip

Vaporesso describes the GEN 200 and GEN 80S as the lightest mods in their class, with two and one 18650 cells, and a four-layer coating taken from the GEN S. Both charge over USB-C at 5 V and 2 A.

The GEN MAX changes the way you adjust things. Its fire button doubles as a dial that changes settings as you turn it, a one-button lock stops accidental firing, and there are three interface themes. The GEN SE, its single 18650 sibling, tops out at 80 W. Vaporesso lists no water or dust rating for this range, which stays a mod for indoors or a calm pocket.

Armour, the range that takes knocks and water

The Armour Max and Armour S come fully wrapped in TPU, from tank to mod. A single button handles both firing and locking, and the battery door opens with one press. Vaporesso ships them with an 18650 sleeve inside the mod, so you can keep your 18650 cells and move to 21700 later without changing mod, as we explain in our guide to moving to a 21700 mod.

The Armour S draws up to 100 W from a single cell. In the most demanding case, a nearly flat cell at 3.2 V and 90% efficiency, the current is 100 ÷ (3.2 × 0.9) = 34.7 A. A P42A 21700, which Molicel rates at 45 A, keeps a margin.

The Armour Ultra swaps removable cells for a built-in 5500 mAh battery and claims IP68, IP69K and a 1.2 m drop test to MIL-STD-810H. The Armour Octa keeps two 18650 cells and adds a guard that cuts output when the voltage difference between the cells exceeds 0.9 V, plus a charging cut-off above 75 °C.

Target, the cage built for getting out

The Target range relies on a cage-like frame and a triangular structure which, according to Vaporesso, let the Target 80 and 100 fit a bigger battery into a compact body. A water-resistant, anti-splash braid covers the grip, and the interface is said to be easier to read in sunlight.

This is the range for the bike ride and the rucksack, without the full wrap of the Armour, running from the Target 80 with its built-in battery to the twin-cell Target 200.

LUXE II, GEN X and GEN NANO, the odd ones out

Among its tank kits, Vaporesso also files mods outside these series. Three of them reach 80 W or more, even though two carry the GEN name. The LUXE II stands out with a 2 inch colour TFT screen. The GEN X, in CNC machined aircraft-grade aluminium, reads coils from 0.03 to 5 Ω.

The GEN NANO settles for a built-in battery. One detail matters over time, as Vaporesso lists Micro USB charging, an older connector than the USB-C found on the other models.

What makes a Vaporesso mod last

Beyond the range name, three points decide how long a mod stays in service. All three can be checked on the maker’s page before you buy.

Cells you can replace

A built-in battery, as on the Armour Ultra, Target 80 or GEN NANO, sets the lifespan of the mod. Removable cells can be swapped, provided you do the maths.

At 220 W on two cells each one supplies 110 W, so 110 ÷ 2.88 = 38.2 A in the most demanding case, above the 35 A Molicel quotes for its P28A 18650. On a twin 18650 mod, the setting is what has to come down, until the sum stays under the datasheet figure with a margin.

Documented protection

The Armour Octa page spells out its protection in detail, with monitoring of the gap between cells, a charging cut-off when hot and a guard against accidental ten second presses. On the other models, the button lock remains the first defence against accidental firing.

Warranty and UK specifics

Vaporesso offers a 90 day warranty from purchase, with the serial number and security code required for a claim. Your statutory rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 are with the retailer and apply on top. Kits sold in the UK come with the 2 ml version of the tank, the legal cap for refillable tanks, even when the global version holds 8 ml.

FAQ

Five points that the Vaporesso spec sheets mention without always explaining.

What does DTL mean on Vaporesso pages?

DTL stands for direct to lung, where vapour goes straight to the lungs rather than being held in the mouth first. Vaporesso presents the GEN MAX and GEN SE as designed for this draw, and the Armour Max and Armour S for experienced DTL vapers.

What is the F(t) mode on the AXON chipset?

Vaporesso describes it as precise control of the heating rate, aimed at vaporising different flavours at different temperatures. It appears among the modes of the Target mods and the Armour Max.

Is the Armour G a Vaporesso mod?

Not a screw-on atomiser mod. Vaporesso files the Armour G and Armour GS under its pod mods. They take GTX coil pods, with 80 W, a built-in 3000 mAh battery on the G and an 18650 cell on the GS.

What do IP68 and IP69K mean?

For Vaporesso, IP68 means immersion at 1 m for more than 30 minutes, and IP69K means resistance to high-pressure hot water jets and full protection against dust. The brand states that these tests apply to the mod alone, not the tank.

How can I check a Vaporesso mod is genuine?

A security label sits on the side of the box. Its logo shifts as you tilt it under light, and its QR code, scanned with a phone, leads to the manufacturer’s verification.

Choosing a Vaporesso mod by range first

The sound approach is to pick the range before the model. GEN for low weight, Armour for toughness, Target for the outdoors, then the number and size of cells to suit the wattage you really use. A Vaporesso mod chosen this way fits the life you have in mind for it, and that is what keeps it going far longer than its 220 W headline.

Lost Vape does the same with its Centaurus line, and this decoding, applied here to the Vaporesso mod, works for any brand that groups its mods into families.
